Well, I almost turned the website off. It was coming up on time to renew all the services related to keeping pastorwill.net, and I decided that after close to 11 years, it was time to close up shop. It has been quite a few years since I have formally worked with the church, so I thought maybe I was ready.
If you like the website, you can thank my wife, Karen, who told me, “Not yet.” She is not sure I am done. That makes sense. If I remember correctly, she was the last person I worked with in my role of helping churches with technology. I had pretty much hung up my church communications technology hat when she called to ask for help with the livestream at her church.
The site is not dead. I still get considerable traffic and the occasional “thank you” email, usually from someone in another state or country. The site is funded entirely by affiliate links and almost pays for itself. I say almost because it might cover hosting fees, but it doesn’t at all account for my time and effort.
However, my wife’s wisdom prevailed, so I will renew for another year. If you find pastorwill.net valuable and want to see it continue, you can help. Honestly, if I get enough interest, I may start writing more. Here are some things you can do to support the ministry of pastorwill.net.
- Visit—Site traffic is the only way I know people are interested. Visitors to the website encourage me to continue researching and publishing posts. I can see what posts people are most interested in and possibly expand that type of content.
- Share—If you know churches, pastors, or leaders who need this type of help, let them know about the site.
- Link—Not everyone knows this, but one of the ways that you can help a website grow is by sharing links to them on your website, blog, social media, etc. Search engines like Google decide if a site is good by counting the number of other sites that link to it. So, if you have a place to post it, sharing pastorwill.net goes a long way.
- Purchase—Whenever someone clicks on one of the referral links on the site and buys something, Amazon gives me a tiny little cut. During the pandemic, with everyone needing information about live streaming, those referral links paid for the site and gave me a little left over to inspire me to keep writing. The cool thing is Amazon doesn’t care what you end up buying. So, if you click on a link to look at a new microphone and end up buying a new hat, we still get a little commission.
- Stay Tuned—To dip my feet a little deeper back into church communications and tech, I will soon offer free communication and tech consulting via Zoom. It will be limited to a few opportunities, so keep an eye out.
